Job loss

Loosing your job causes tension, and it might accumulate your bills. Experts recommend having at least three months of salary saved and available in case you go through a situation like that.
Depending on the job market and economic stability, finding a job might take from three to six months. In case you loose your job, check if there are unemployment benefits form government or from you company that might be available to you. For further information, seek the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social, Labor Department of your insurance agent.

Recommendations:

  • If you know your company is reducing personal or closing, cut down your expenses as much as you can.
  • Pay your bills on time. If you can’t pay them in full, contact your creditors, explain your situation and ask for a payment plan that allows you to pay less with no penalties while you are unemployed.
  • If you are forced to take a job where you will make less than you made on your last job, adjust your expenses to your new income, including a plan to pay what you couldn’t pay when you were unemployed.
