After deciding what type of credit you need, and how much credit you can allow yourself; the following steps will help you keep good credit history:
- Explore until you find the best credit terms.
- Make sure you understand the terms of the contract before accepting a credit card or loan.
- Save a little bit of every paycheck for an emergency.
- Establish a monthly limit for purchases and stick to it.
- Be as careful with credit card purchases as you are with cash purchases.
- Don’t take on monthly credit payments, unless you are sure you can cover them.
- Pay bills promptly and completely to keep financial charges low.
- If you charge daily expenses, pay out your total balance at the end of the month.
- Keep your credit card information (including issuer’s telephone number) in a safe place, in case you loose it, or in case it is stolen.
Keep the receipts of your purchases, and compare the charges with the ones on the statement. If something is wrong, call the issuer immediately.
